Courses: Jazz and Contemporary

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet , as it encourages grace and balance.

Do you want to learn a jazz step that will show off your amazing flexibility as well as your tremendous range of motion?  The jazz layout, If performed correctly, can be one of the most breathtaking moves because it involves extending one leg high into the air while arching your back, a layout can create a gorgeous line.

The Basic Jazz Walk

A jazz walk is basically a snazzy walk forward with a bit of an attitude. Don't be intimidated by learning how to perform a jazz walk - if you know how to walk, you are halfway there already.

Contemporary dance is a popular form of dance which developed during the middle portion of the twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominating performance genres for dancers throughout the world.. Although originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has since come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance, but due to its popularity, it is often perceived as being closely related to modern dance, ballet and other classical concert dance styles.

In terms of the focus of its technique, contemporary dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern dance,  It also employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance.  Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used, as well. It sometimes also incorporates elements of non-western dance cultures such as elements from African dance including bent knees, or movements from the Japanese contemporary dance
